Malverne HS Band Wins First Metallica Competition
The school band won $15,000 and new musical equipment.
MALVERNE, NY — The Malverne High School marching band has been awarded $15,000 in an inaugural nationwide competition.
The musicians from Malverne came in first in the Metallica Marching Band Competition. Results were announced Sunday night on ESPN.
High schools were selected in small, medium and large divisions. Malverne took home the honors in the medium grouping, in a tie with a school from Texas.

Along with the $15,000 prize, the band will also receive new musical equipment.
Winners were selected from more than 450 college and high school submissions. Each category was pared down to the final five by professional judges before Metallica determined each champion.

A victory ceremony for Malverne is being planned.
