Malverne School Budget Vote, Trustee Election Tuesday

Here's what you need to know before heading to the polls.

Malverne residents will head to the polls on Tuesday to cast their ballots for a proposed school budget and to elect school board trustees.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Howard T Herber Middle School in Malverne.

The Malverne Board of Education is proposing a budget of $54,527,002 for 2016-17. That represents a 1.99 percent spending increase over the current year and it comes with a 0.83 percent hike in the school tax levy.

Voters will also elect school board trustees on Tuesday.

Incumbent Michael Taylor will be running against challengers Jeannie D'Esposito and Jan Kasal for the one open seat on the school board. The term is for four years.
