WEST HEMPSTEAD, NY — A man was arrested for assaulting a police officer early Monday in West Hempstead, detectives say.

Police were responding to a call and found an underage girl breathing but unresponsive, police say.

Multiple bottles of alcohol were discovered near the residence, police say.

The girl was transported to an area hospital.

Galo Roman, 23, was questioned by police about giving alcohol to minors at his Bedell Terrace residence, detectives say.

However, Roman refused to show a form of identification to police and tried to close the door on the officers, police say.

They attempted to arrest Roman, but he resisted, according to police, pushing one officer into a glass cabinet. He was taken to a local hospital with an injury to his hand.

Roman was ultimately handcuffed and charged with assaulting a police officer, second-degree obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest. He was scheduled for arraignment on Monday in Hempstead.
