Man With Loaded Gun In Car Taken Into Custody: Police

The 54-year-old was initially stopped for failing to use the blinker at a turn, detectives say.

MALVERNE, NY — A man was taken into custody for having a loaded handgun.

Kevin Balam, 54, of Queens, was stopped by police on Tuesday night in Malverne for failing to signal a right turn, detectives said.

Once pulled over on Ocean Avenue near Park Boulevard, an officer found the gun in the vehicle-- a 2007 Chevrolet Malibu, police said.

Balam faces several charges including second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a firearm.

He was expected to be arraigned on Wednesday in Mineola, according to police.
