Man Rescued From Sinking Sailboat: Police
A distress call came in about a sinking vessel on Saturday, police say.
HEMPSTEAD, NY — A man, 65, was rescued from a sinking sailboat in Hempstead Harbor Saturday, police said.
According to Nassau County Police, the incident took place at 5:45 p.m. near the Roslyn Viaduct. A witness reported a man clinging to the side of a 12-foot sailboat, police said.
A Nassau County aviation helicopter responded, located the boat, and directed a Nassau County marine officer to the scene, police said. The marine unit remained to monitor the situation and provide support for the Glen Cove harbor patrol, police said.

The harbor patrol helped the man, who was not injured and refused medical attention, out of the water, then towed the vessel to shore, police said.
