Long Island Street Name, With KKK Past, Renamed
Lindner Place was named for Paul Lindner, who was a Long Island leader in the racist group a century ago.

MALVERNE, NY — Decades in the making, the controversial Lindner Place has been renamed in Malverne.
The village board voted last week to call the street Acorn Way.
Residents, even schoolchildren, had been demanding the village replace Lindner Place. It was named for an early settler and businessman in Malverne, Paul Lindner.

But what was lost or overlooked for years, was Lindner's dark past, including ties to the Ku Klux Klan.
"What began as a project turned into a calling for our students. That calling has now led to meaningful change. There is no greater fulfillment than that," Jason Mach, District Supervisor of Humanities, told Patch. "We are exceptionally proud of our students and of the work they did with the Malverne community."

In April, the board of trustees voted unanimously to remove Lindner Place.
Last month, the Lindner Place Renaming Committee held a public hearing to discuss more than four dozen names, but those directly connected to someone were eliminated, Newsday reported.
The village hopes to reveal the new signs next month.
