Nassau Accountant Charged With Not Paying $91,000 In Taxes

BREAKING: A joint investigation by county and state officials found the alleged failure to pay taxes.

An East Rockaway accountant was arrested Wednesday on charges that he failed to pay more than $91,000 in income taxes over the last five years.

Steven Ballin, 68, whose firm is located in Valley Stream, was charged with four counts of third-degree criminal tax fraud and three counts of repeated failure to file personal income and earnings taxes. If convicted, he faces up to seven years in prison.

“Cheating on taxes, as this CPA allegedly did, is a crime that victimizes every honest taxpayer,” said Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas. “My office will continue to work with the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance to ensure that public funds are protected and everybody pays their fair share.”

Following a joint investigation by the DA's office and the state Department of Taxation and Finance, it was determined that Ballin allegedly failed to file New York state personal tax returns for 2010 through 2014. After reviewing extensive records, it was determined that Ballin allegedly owes $91,901.00 in taxes to the state.
