State troopers arrested a Roosevelt man Monday after police say he abandoned a young child after a crash on the Southern State Parkway in Malverne.
According to police, around 11 a.m. on Monday, July 29, Kenneth R. Willis, 36, was driving a 1997 Ford Explorer east on the Southern State near exit 17. Police say he struck a 2016 Honda Accord, and then got off the parkway at exit 17. On the exit ramp, police say Willis struck the guiderail and then went over it, hitting a 2011 Dodge Challenger on the other side.
After the second crash, police say Willis abandoned his car and fled on foot, leaving a child behind. The child was a passenger in the vehicle and was unhurt. They were released to their mother.
