Nassau Man Fired Machine Gun In His Backyard: Police
Police say the man also had multiple high-capacity magazines, and was firing the weapon on a residential street.
Nassau County police arrested an Elmont man on Monday after they say he was firing a machine gun in his backyard.
According to police, police received a call for a person shooting a machine gun in the rear yard of a home on Clay Street in Elmont at 5:45 p.m. on April 7. After an investigation, police say they found Robert Hoenig, 49, in possession of a machine gun and five high-power, large-capacity ammunition feeding devices. Police say the investigation also showed that Hoenig fired the gun.
Police say the investigation is ongoing.

According to Newsday, Hoenig had an AK-47 which had been modified to allow multiple bullets to fire with one continuous pull of the trigger.
Hoenig was arrested without incident on Monday. He is charged with five counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon feeding device, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and second-degree reckless endangerment. He is scheduled to be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Tuesday.
