Nassau Store Clerk Maced In Attempted Robbery

Police say the clerk was maced after he refused to empty the cash register for the robber, who then fled the scene.

A convenience store clerk was maced by a robber Tuesday afternoon, who then fled the store without stealing anything, police say.

According to police, a man entered the Alzaeem Convenience Store, located at 800 Elmont Rd. in Elmont, at 4:50 p.m. He demanded that the clerk, a 21-year-old man, give him cash from the register. The clerk refused, and the man pulled out a small black canister of mace and sprayed it in the clerk's face. The man then fled the scene on foot.

The clerk was treated at the scene.

The robber is described as a black man, 5 feet, 8 inches tall, 170 pounds with a full beard and mustache. He was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt, a black hat and red sweat pants.

Police ask anyone with information about this robbery to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS, or call 911. All callers will remain anonymous, and you could receive a cash reward if your information leads to an arrest.
