Nassau Woman Threatened Drivers With Hammer: Police
Police say there were multiple occasions when she got out of her car and threatened other drivers with a hammer.
An Elmont woman was arrested on Sunday after police say she threatened people with a hammer during road rages on two separate occasions.
According to police, on March 30 at 10:30 a.m., Kari B. Fletcher, of Elmont, was driving her black BMW X5 on Elmont Road, weaving through traffic and driving fast. Police say she passed a woman's car, and when the two stopped at a light on Elmont Road and Linden Boulevard, the two got into an argument. Police say Fletcher pulled her car in front of the woman's, stopping her from driving away, and then got out of her car brandishing a hammer and threatened the woman. The woman feared for her safety and the safety of her 8-year-old daughter, who was in the back seat, police say. Fletcher got back into her car and drove away on Linden Boulevard, police say.
On April 10 at 11:35 a.m., police say that Fletcher got angry while she was waiting in the drive through at Checkers, located at 600 Hempstead Turnpike in Elmont. Police say she grabbed a hammer from the passenger seat of her car and waved it at another woman in a threatening manner, making her fear for her safety. Police say that Fletcher then got out of her car and approached the front of the restaurant, still holding the hammer, and began yelling at the woman and witnesses, who had locked themselves inside the restaurant for safety. Police say Fletcher fled before officers arrived.
