New York American Water Awards Valley Stream Student Prestigious Scholarship
Natalie Portu of Valley Stream Wins $3,000 Scholarship for Water Industry Studies

New York American Water announced today Natalie Portu of Valley Stream is this year’s 2015 recipient of a scholarship from the company’s National Association of Water Companies (NAWC-NY) Scholarship program. Portu, who attends Valley Stream Central High School, earned a $3,000 scholarship in pursuit of studying biomedical science at SUNY Albany.
“We are pleased to present Natalie with this scholarship, as she has earned it through her impressive achievements throughout her high school career, particularly in the sciences,” said Brian Bruce, President of New York American Water. “We would like to both congratulate Natalie and wish her luck as she pursues a major in biomedical science and a career in the water industry.”
New York American Water offered five $3,000 scholarships to high school seniors who planned to pursue a career in the water-utility industry or related fields. This is the fifth consecutive year New York American Water has offered scholarships to high school students within its service area as part of its commitment to fostering the future workforce and leaders of the state’s water supply. The scholarship program is part of an outreach effort by the New York Chapter of the National Association of Water Companies (NAWC), of which New York American Water is a member, and Bruce is Chairman.
