New York American Water Investing $825,000 in East Rockaway

New York American Water is investing $825,000 to install new water mains in its East Rockaway service area. When the work is complete, the company will have replaced approximately 3,400 feet of 8-inch ductile iron water mains, 5 fire hydrants and 70 service lines. This main replacement project will improve water quality and service reliability for residents and increase water flows for commercial use and firefighting. The project is expected to be completed in approximately three weeks.

These areas within East Rockaway have been prioritized due to the old age of the pipes in the ground. This work will help prevent water distribution problems in the future.”

The scheduled main replacement project will take place along three different roads and is expected to begin on October 6, 2017, weather permitting. The replacement project will occur at the following locations within East Rockaway:

· Baisley Avenue from Main Street to Franklin Street, East Rockaway

· Adams Street from Baisley Avenue to First Street, East Rockaway

· Dart Street from Baisley Avenue to Smith Street, East Rockaway

Residents should note that sections of the streets where construction is taking place may be closed to traffic during work hours (8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday).
