No. 94 — Take a Ride to Trainland

A fascinating place to walk around.

Our seventh installment in the "100 Things to Do in Lynbrook" is to check out , located at 293 Sunrise Highway.

When you have nothing to do or feel like doing something new and different, this is a great place to walk around. Children and grown-ups will enjoy looking at all the displays that they have.

Check out Patch's "Frugal Family" on Thursday for a special sale that will be going on here. This weekend is a great time to go in and look around and see all the things Trainland has to offer.

Trainland came to Lynbrook back in 1968. It was a place that I frequently visited.

As a young child, this was one of the few places around that carried Matchbox cars. For some reason, these were a favorite of mine, and on Saturdays, when my family or friends and I would walk around the village, we would go here and get a new Matchbox car. I still have my Matchbox collection to this day, most of which was purchased from this store. We also would walk around and watch the train displays. They were fascinating to watch, and they made you want to have a set just like it in your home, which is exactly what we did. My family had an amazing train set from here that went under our Christmas tree every year.

Of special mention for those Sopranos fans, Episode 85, “The Blue Comet,” when Bobby Bacala got whacked, was filmed at Trainland.

My recommendation is to take a trip to Trainland and see how it is so much more than just trains. The store also carries model sets, starter sets, amusement park rides, toys, racing cars and so much more. Trainland will also buy your old train sets if you are looking to sell one or build a new one.
