When we asked Patch readers this week to vote for the place in Malverne-West Hempstead that serves up the best Mother's Day brunch, this 50s-style restaurant, situated in the heart of the village of Malverne, It took 48 percent of the votes. in West Hempstead was the first runner-up.
Jerry Carter, who opened up Our Town Grille in 2000 with his partner Richard Fisichello, says he usually serves up atleast three specials on Mother's Day. Moms love his Challah French Toast, which is topped with fresh strawberries, blueberries, toasted almonds and Russian cream, he says, adding, "It's my own invention."

He hasn't finalized this year's menu yet but in the past he's offered a Steak and Eggs option and Bananas Foster over waffles. Each mom also gets a free mimosa with their meal.

Our Town Grille will be open on Mother's Day, May 13, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Reservations are accepted for parties of 5 or more.
