MALVERNE, NY — Sarah Sadik has hopes of becoming a medical doctor. The 2019 SUNY Old Westbury graduate got a boost toward her career desire by winning the Fulbright Program scholarship.

Sadik, who lives in Malverne, becomes the first SUNY Old Westbury graduate to receive the honor.

The program, established in 1946, funds American citizens to study, conduct research or teach English abroad.

She had to create her own ideas based on the specific needs of the country.

Sadik, 23, is planning to attend medical school after completing her Fulbright studies. While she is still figuring out what part of medicine is the best fit for her, "My minor at Old Westbury was women and gender studies, so that's something I've always been very passionate about."
