Suspected Gang Member Charged in Hempstead Lake State Park Stabbing: Reports

The 17-year-old was allegedly involved in the stabbing of three teens with a machete last month, according to reports.

WEST HEMPSTEAD, NY - A Hempstead teen was arraigned on Monday in connection to the stabbing of three teens with a machete that occurred at Hempstead Lake State Park in May, according to multiple reports.

Francisco Romero, 17, who is a suspected to be a member of the MS-13 gang, was arrested on Sunday and charged with six counts of second degree assault and four counts of menacing for assaulting the teens, Newsday reports.

The incident occurred on May 23 when a group of teens walking along a path inside Hempstead Lake State Park in West Hempstead were attacked and stabbed with a machete, according to Pix11.

Three of the teens attacked, two 16-year-olds and an 16-year-old were treated for stab wounds from a machete after the fight which involved at lease seven teens, Pix11 reports.

Romero is accused of chasing four teens with a branch, hitting them with it, and then punching then after the branch broke but he claims he never used the machete, ABC7 reports.

Police are still seeking two other teen believed to be involved in the incident, between 16 and 17 years old, as well as "other subjects still not identified," according to ABC7.
