WEST HEMPSTEAD, NY - In honor of National Autism Awareness Month, Hempstead Town Supervisor Anthony Santino and the Gersh Academy are hosting a special student art exhibit at Hempstead Town Hall.

Santino congratulated and thanked Gersh Academy’s student artists, along with their parents and teachers, during a special ceremony at Town Hall on April 20.

Over a dozen students from the Gersh Academy contributed their artwork to the Autism Awareness Month exhibit, and were on hand at the ceremony to meet Supervisor Santino.

“Art making is a fantastic way for people, especially those on the autism spectrum, to communicate, relate their feelings and express themselves. Having a venue like this to display their artistic efforts and hard work gives our students a sense of pride and accomplishment,” Gersh Academy art therapist Elizabeth Pasipanki said.

The art will remain on display in the Ground Floor Lobby of Town Hall through Monday, May 2 and is viewable during business hours between 8 a.m. and 4:45 p.m.

“Serving children with special needs has and always will be a priority in the Town of Hempstead, and we’re proud to team with the Gersh Academy to spread awareness about Autism Awareness Month,” Santino said. “Congratulations to our talented student artists!”
