Valley Stream 24 Celebrates Autism Acceptance Month
William L. Buck School Creates Positivity Tree to Honor Neurodiversity
William L. Buck School proudly celebrated Autism Acceptance Month and Neurodiversity Celebration Month throughout April, with a school-wide focus on compassion, inclusion, and the power of positivity.
“We take pride in fostering an environment where every student, teacher, staff member, and family is encouraged to honor their unique abilities, embrace their strengths, and support one another,” said William L. Buck School Principal Michael DeBlasio. “Together, we are creating a united and empowering community, moving forward with a shared voice and unwavering acceptance.”
Guided by a shared commitment to embracing differences and supporting every learner, the school community united to promote awareness, understanding, and kindness. Among the highlights of the month-long celebration was the school’s vibrant Positivity Tree, a colorful and uplifting centerpiece in the main hallway.

The Positivity Tree serves as a powerful visual symbol of acceptance and unity. Students were asked to contribute positive affirmations to the tree, offering words of encouragement, support, and appreciation for their peers. These messages not only celebrate individuality but also foster a culture of respect and empathy across all grade levels.
