Valley Stream 24 Employee is Honored for Saving a Student’s Life

A Valley Stream 24 School District employee recently saved the life of a student who was choking during lunch

Kathleen Neske, a cafeteria aide at Brooklyn Avenue School in the Valley Stream 24 School District, recently saved the life of a student who was choking during lunch by quickly recognizing the emergency and performing the necessary life-saving protocol. Mrs. Neske was honored for her heroic actions and unwavering diligence at the district’s October Board of Education business meeting.

“Our Board of Education and the entire Valley Stream 24 community extend our deepest gratitude to Mrs. Neske for her quick thinking and remarkable bravery in a moment of crisis,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Unal Karakas. “Thanks to her swift and courageous actions, our student is safe and well. We are incredibly grateful to Mrs. Neske for exemplifying such dedication and care toward our students.”

Brooklyn Avenue School staff and community members attended the Board of Education meeting in recognition of Mrs. Neske, expressing heartfelt thanks for her selflessness and life-saving response. Her actions reflect the commitment and compassion that Valley Stream 24 strives to foster throughout the district.
