Valley Stream 24 Students Honor Special VIPs Through Meaningful Writing Celebration

Students in Pamela Fowler and Christine Anson's class engaged in the complete writing process

Students in Pamela Fowler and Christine Anson’s class in the Valley Stream 24 School District celebrated their first-ever VIP Day on June 4. The special event that combined literacy, self-expression and gratitude.

As part of the celebration, students engaged in the complete writing process by writing, revising, editing and publishing speeches dedicated to a very important person in their lives. The project provided students with an opportunity to strengthen their writing skills while reflecting on the people who have positively impacted them.

Many students chose to honor their mothers, while others recognized grandparents, siblings, and other influential role models. One student selected her speech teacher, Paige Brickman, as her VIP, sharing heartfelt appreciation for the support, encouragement, and guidance she has received throughout the school year.

The event welcomed Superintendent of Schools Dr. Unal Karakas, Principal Iacono, and Mr. John Boniello, who visited the classroom to encourage students and listen as they proudly delivered their speeches.

“The students demonstrated remarkable thoughtfulness, gratitude and pride through their writing and presentations,” Dr. Karakas said. “VIP Day was a wonderful example of how authentic learning experiences can help students develop important academic skills while celebrating the meaningful relationships that inspire and support them every day.”

The pride, appreciation and personal connections reflected in each speech made the event especially meaningful for students, staff and guests alike. Through their words, students not only showcased their growth as writers but also highlighted the importance of recognizing those who make a difference in their lives.

Valley Stream 24 remains committed to providing engaging learning experiences that foster creativity, communication, and strong connections between students, families and the broader school community.
