Village of Hempstead Police Department Honors Retirees
Village of Hempstead Police Department Retirees Celebrate Combined 46 Years of Service
Village of Hempstead, N.Y. (July 14, 2015) – The Village of Hempstead congratulates Hempstead Police Department Communications Operator Ms. Mary Foxx and Hempstead Police Department School Grossing Guard Ms. Tommy Lee Carr on their retirements after a combined 46 years of service. Police Chief Michael McGowan honored both retirees with plaques of appreciation at a celebration for the retirees at Village Hall in Hempstead.
Hempstead Police Department Communications Operator Ms. Mary Foxx is a 62-year old Freeport, New York resident who was hired on February 5, 1986, as a Communications Operator for the police department and officially retired June 30, 2015, after 29 years of service. In 2007, she was assigned to the office of the Chief of Police to assist in the day-to-day operations of the department.
“Ms. Foxx was a wonderful asset to the department and the administration as a Communications Operator,” said Hempstead Chief of Police Michael McGowan. “I had the honor of working with Ms. Foxx throughout her entire career. She will be missed by all.”

Hempstead Police Department School Grossing Guard Ms. Tommy Lee Carr is a 75-year old Hempstead resident and mother of two daughters who was hired by the department on September 8, 1998, and officially retired June 26, 2015, after 17 years of service. During a June 25, 2015, breakfast held in her honor, she thanked the police department and her fellow school crossing guards for a wonderful career.
“Ms. Carr was a joy to work with and a role model to her fellow School Crossing Guards,” said Hempstead Commanding Officer of Uniform Civilians Lieutenant Vincent Montera. “We’re grateful for her many years of dedication.”
