Villains Abound At Annual Lynbrook Class Night

Heroes and villains clashed at the annual event, now in its 89th year.

In a display of school spirit spanning nearly nine decades, Lynbrook High School presented its 89th annual Class Night Skits on March 17.

The event pits freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors against one another in a friendly rivalry in which each class demonstrates its own brand of one-upmanship and showmanship.

The theme of this year’s competition was “Villains.” In the freshmen’s “Despicable Me,” Gru and his children thwarted Vector’s plot to steal the Empire State Building. In the sophomores’ “Toy Story,” Woody and friends rescued Buzz Lightyear from the clutches of the toy torturer Sid. In the juniors’ version of the “Lion King,” Scar stole Pride Rock to try to disrupt the Circle of Life ceremony, but Simba and his friends found it just in time to save the celebration. The seniors’ “Batman” skit found Batman and Robin framed by the Joker and being tried by a jury of clowns. All seemed lost until Catwoman and friends teamed up to help the Dynamic Duo and save the day.

Students worked for weeks to create original scripts, costumes, sets and choreography, lacing their dialog with clever puns and cultural references, and peppering their dance numbers with athletic acrobatics.

Performances were judged according to five separate criteria: skits, scenery, costumes, box and banner. In an upset victory, the juniors won top honors, with seniors, sophomores and freshmen finishing second, third and fourth, respectively.
