West Hempstead Residents Approve Budget On Second Chance
The budget, which fell short last month by 141 votes, passed on June 20 by more than 300 votes.

WEST HEMPSTEAD, NY — Voters in the West Hempstead Union Free District approved a budget for the 2023-2024 season.
It was a month ago when West Hempstead was the only district in Nassau County to vote down the budget.
But on June 20, the budget passed 1,989 to 1,670, a spokesperson for the district said.

The original May 17 vote fell short by just 141 votes.
"After considering all of the community’s input, the Board decided to present the same budget proposal to the community," the Board wrote in a newsletter.

It's a $74,125,176 budget for the next school year with a 1.9% tax levy increase.
