West Hempstead Welcomes Students Back To School

The students were welcomed back with open arms to kick off the 2018-19 school year.

Despite humid temperatures, the West Hempstead School District welcomed students back to all five buildings with smiles and enthusiasm on Wednesday.

The high school and middle school started the day for the district with first-year Principals James DeTommaso and Sean Murray helping to greet students on Nassau Boulevard. At Chestnut Street School, Principal Faith Tripp and staff opened the doors to the young students. Principal Deanna Sinito rolled out a red carpet and handed out sunglasses for students at the district’s new primary center, Cornwell Avenue School. Meanwhile, Principal Michelle Noti helped to direct fourth-, fifth- and sixth-graders through the hallways to start the day at George Washington School.

Superintendent of Schools Daniel Rehman and Assistant Superintendent Dina Reilly were among the many administrators to tour the schools on day one to wish all the student well.
