Valley Stream, NY (December 15, 2016) – The Valley Stream Union Free School District 13 recently announced Wheeler Avenue Elementary School art teacher Christine DiDio has been granted tenure. DiDio started at the school in the fall of 2014 and immediately became an active member of the school and Valley Stream community.

“Christine has been an extraordinary addition to our school. Her love for art and her genuine dedication to helping students develop their artistic abilities, has shined through the numerous initiatives she has led,” said Wheeler Avenue Principal Dr. Gayle Steele. “Christine’s special connection with her students has made art class an interactive and educational experience that students look forward to each day.”

Last year, DiDio organized the school’s first art exhibition at Sip This café in Valley Stream. The exhibition featured artwork from fourth grade students – allowing the young artists to showcase their work in a frequented neighborhood venue. The inaugural showcase helped bring the community and local business together in recognition of DiDio’s talented students.

“Christine’s largest impact has been the creation of an annual sixth grade mural project. Each year, Christine has the sixth grade class paint a mural in the hallways of Wheeler Avenue Elementary based on a historic artist they’ve studied throughout the year,” continued Dr. Steele. “It’s been an incredible way to brighten our school and we look forward to having Christine’s positive influence for years to come.”
