• Family of inmate beaten to death reaches $24M settlement with New York State (wcax.com) — A $24 million settlement has been reached with New York State over the death of inmate Robert Brooks at Marcy Correctional Facility, directly tying a major legal outcome to Marcy. Ten officers were charged, with one convicted of murder and several others pleading to manslaughter or lesser offenses. The family says the lawsuit was their only way to fight for Brooks’ legacy.
