NJ Man Extradited To Nassau County Amid Bail Jumping Charge, DA Says

According to prosecutors, the man fled New York after entering a plea deal in a prior case required he make a $50,000 restitution payment.

MINEOLA, NY — A New Jersey man was extradited to Nassau County and arraigned this week on a bail jumping charge after prosecutors say he skipped town while owing a $50,000 restitution payment that stemmed from a plea deal in a prior criminal case involving a Massapequa law firm.

Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly said 48-year-old Ekufia Osokam was indicted for bail jumping in October of 2025 after entering a plea deal in April of 2024 on a grand larceny charge. The grand larceny case, prosecutors said, was brought after Osokam was accused of passing a fraudulent check for over $84,000 to a Massapequa firm and withdrawing $77,500. Osokam’s attorney in the bail jumping case, Ramy Louis, could not be reached for comment in this story.

As part of that plea deal, prosecutors said Osokam was obligated to make a $50,000 restitution payment within six months or face 1 to 3 years in jail. Prosecutors said Osokam only paid out $10,000 of what he owed, leaving him open to the incarceration time. When his next court date, Oct. 15, 2024, came, Osokam was nowhere to be found, prosecutors said.

That month, prosecutors said a grand jury indicted him on a felony charge of bail jumping. Later on in the same month, Donnelly said Nassau PD received a call from the Colorado Department of Corrections regarding an applicant for a corrections officer position in the state named Ekufia Osokam.

An outstanding warrant for his arrest was revealed during a background check after Osokam applied for the corrections officer position, and he was arrested Mar. 20. Osokam was then extradited to Nassau County Sunday and arraigned Monday,

“This defendant should have been occupying a jail cell, not applying for a job to patrol them,” Donnelly said. “Ekufia Osokam deliberately and knowingly entered into a plea agreement that could have meant jail time if he did not deliver on the promised restitution. When he came up short, he allegedly skipped town and tried to escape accountability altogether. A year after he failed to appear for sentencing, he brazenly applied for a law enforcement position halfway across the country. But he did not bank on an active arrest warrant and the multi-state cooperation of law enforcement. Now, Osokam’s criminal cases have doubled, and he may find himself on the other side of those steel bars.”

If convicted, Osokam could face up to four years in prison, prosecutors said. He's due back in court in June, according to the DA's office.
