Nassau County Village Ranked Best Place To Live In New York For 2026-27, New Report Finds

The U.S. News & World Report ranked a Nassau County village as the best place in New York to live in 2026-27.

MASSAPEQUA, NY — Massapequa Park has gone back-to-back in the U.S. News & World Report rankings of the best places to live in New York, being ranked the empire state’s top town for a second year in a row.

The U.S. News & World Report rankings took several economic factors into account when ranking the best places to live, including average housing cost, average wage, unemployment rate and commute times.

For Massapequa Park, the results were mostly higher than the national average, which presented a bit of a mixed bag in the rankings. The average house in Massapequa Park, for example, cost just north of $630,000 according to the report, almost lapping the national average of $359,870. That housing cost was coupled with a higher than national average household income — $177,815 average in Massapequa Park compared to a $83,181 average nationally — and a 3.5 percent unemployment rate that was a full percentage point below the 4.5 percent average. Even with a reported average commute time of 28 minutes, outpacing the national average by more than 5 minutes, Massapequa still came in at the front of the pack in New York.

Also ranking in New York’s top 10 were Hicksville and Lindenhurst, ranked third and seventh, respectively.

Nationally, New York wasn’t the highest scoring state on these U.S. News & World Report rankings; Massapequa came in at number 118 in the nationwide top places to live rankings while Hicksville placed 237th and Lindenhurst came in 307th. For the most part, the rankings favored lower cost-of-living states like Indiana, Texas, Georgia and Michigan.
