• Pediatric cancer survivor from Massapequa gets surprise visit from Mets' David Wright (news12.com) — A Massapequa cancer survivor is being celebrated well beyond Long Island after turning her childhood brain tumor battle into a nationwide effort to support kids with cancer. Bridget Rogers helped design emotional-resilience workshops through A Moment of Magic Foundation, is now training to be a physician for medically vulnerable children, and just received a surprise home visit and "Guardian Everyday Champion" honor from the New York Mets and David Wright.
• GC schools prepare for opening with curriculum updates (gcnews.com) — Garden City school officials are finalizing construction, curriculum updates, and staffing ahead of the September 1 opening, while also flagging a dispute over venue and kickoff changes for their Week 3 football game against Massapequa High School. The board is pressing Section VIII for answers on the new policy that let the home team alter those details without consultation, and promises to keep families informed as the season approaches.
