1 ‘Seriously Injured’ In LI Crash; Driver Charged With DWI: PD
A passenger in a 2003 MINI Cooper involved in a three-car crash was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital, police said.
MEDFORD, NY — A 39-year-old Middle Island man was charged with driving while intoxicated after a three-car crash seriously injured his passenger in Medford, Suffolk police said.
Police said that just before 1 a.m., Victor Gonzalez Lopez was driving a 2003 MINI Cooper southbound on North Ocean Avenue when it went through a red light at the intersection of Granny Road and struck a 2018 Lexus traveling eastbound on Granny Road.
The MINI Cooper then veered into the turning lane of North Ocean Avenue, where it struck a 2020 Ford Fusion, police said.

A passenger in the MINI Cooper, Mario Ramos Romero, was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital in “serious condition,” police said. Gonzalez Lopez was also transported to the hospital, but police said he had “minor injuries.
The Lexus’ driver, Graca Fernandes, 62, of Medford, was transported to Long Island Community Hospital in East Patchogue with “minor injuries,” police said, adding that the Ford’s driver was not injured. All three vehicles were impounded for safety checks, police said.

Gonzalez Lopez was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and will be arraigned at a later date, police said. The investigation is continuing with 6th Squad detectives, according to police.
