6 People Hurt, 1 Seriously, After Car Crashes Into Long Island Building

It happened Thursday afternoon. Driver airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries.

Six people were hurt, including a driver who suffered serious injuries, after a car plowed into the New Village complex in Patchogue Village Thursday afternoon.

According to police, a male driver lost control of his car and crashed into the under construction Arooga’s Grille House and Sports Bar located at the northwest corner of North Ocean Avenue and Main Street around 1 p.m.

Upon arrival, the Patchogue fire chief was met with a vehicle that had fully penetrated the building. The car began sparking and started to burn. Patchogue firefighters quickly removed the driver and the vehicle was sprayed with a dry chemical fire extinguisher.

The driver was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital to be treated for serious injuries, police said. Five people inside the building were transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center for minor injuries and evaluation. Police did not identify any of the people injured or release any other details on the crash.

Fifth Squad detectives are investigating.
