9 Arrested at Overnight Sobriety Checkpoint
BREAKING: A total of 617 vehicles went through the checkpoint, police say.

Nine people were arrested at an overnight sobriety checkpoint in Patchogue, Suffolk Police said.
Officers from the Suffolk County Police Department Highway Patrol Bureau conducted the checkpoint at Waverly Plaza, located at 371 Sunrise Highway North Service Road, from 11:30 p.m. Friday to 3:30 a.m. Saturday.
The checkpoint was conducted as part of the continuing summer enforcement efforts for the prevention of injuries and fatalities associated with driving while ability impaired by alcohol and drugs, police said.

The following people were charged with DWI:

• Kyle Nolan, 29, of Brookhaven
• Cheryl Bethea, 57, of Albany
• Carol Garcia, 25, of Patchogue
• Ruth Zelaya, 26, of Brentwood
• Teddy Makrigianis, 20, of Brooklyn
• Joseph Sgambati, 25, of Islip
• Jorge Crespo, 28, of Dix Hills
The following people were charged with driving while ability impaired by alcohol:
• Maximillian Perez, 26, of Kissimmee, Fla.
All nine people arrested are scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip Saturday.
