• Tremont Students Get Cooking With Emeril (southshorepress.com) — Tremont Elementary in the Patchogue-Medford School District has launched Emeril's Culinary Garden & Teaching Kitchen, giving local students hands-on lessons in gardening, cooking, and nutrition. Backed by a $500,000 grant from the Emeril Lagasse Foundation, the program includes outdoor beds, an indoor hydroponic farm room, and a fully equipped teaching kitchen to build lifelong healthy eating and practical skills.
• Island Empanada closes Rocky Point and Shirley stores as costs climb (greaterlongisland.com) — Medford residents still have a nearby Island Empanada, even as the chain permanently closes its Rocky Point and Shirley locations due to rising costs and tighter customer spending. The Medford shop is one of just four remaining, with the founder saying competition and higher expenses have reshaped the once rapidly growing empanada business.
