• Island Empanada closes Rocky Point and Shirley stores as costs climb (greaterlongisland.com) — Island Empanada has closed its Rocky Point and Shirley locations, but the Medford shop remains one of four surviving restaurants as rising costs and cautious diners squeeze the chain. Founder Roy Pelaez says expenses and competition have climbed, yet he insists the remaining stores, including Medford, are still going strong after serving millions of empanadas.
