Fire Breaks Out In Basement Of Medford Home

The fire was quickly contained, and is believed to be related to a lithium-ion battery, fire department officials said.

MEDFORD, NY — Firefighters from the Medford Fire Department were called to a fire in the hamlet on Thursday afternoon.

The fire broke out at a Fire Avenue home at about 3:40 p.m., and firefighters "arrived quickly and contained the fire to contents in the basement," fire department officials said on its official Facebook page.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but "suspected to be related to a lithium-ion battery," officials said in the post, adding, that the scene was subsequently turned over to the Town Of Brookhaven Fire Marshal's office for investigation."
