Man Drives Across 2 Lawns, Hits Parked Car On Long Island: Cops

He fled the scene with four children in his car while drunk and high on drugs, police say.

LAKE RONKONKOMA, NY – A 26-year-old man was driving drunk and under the influence of drugs with four children in his car when he drove his car across two front lawns and then struck a parked car in Lake Ronkonkoma early Sunday, police said.

According to Suffolk Police, George Campbell was driving a 2004 Infiniti Q56 on Gatelot Avenue when he drove across the front lawns at two houses on School Street, struck a parked, unoccupied 2018 Toyota and then fled the scene at about 1:25 a.m.

A Fourth Precinct patrol officer observed Campbell's car being operated with two flat tires and pulled over the vehicle on Hawkins Avenue, police said.

Campbell’s girlfriend and her four children, a 16-year-old girl, a 10-year-old boy, a 7-year-old boy and a 3-year-old girl were in the vehicle. No one was injured.

Campbell, of Calverton, was charged with aggravated DWI with a child passenger 15 years or younger (Leandra’s Law), driving while ability impaired by drugs and/or alcohol, first degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash and four counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

Campbell was scheduled to be arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Central Islip.

The children were released into the custody of their mother.
