Pair Charged After Drugs, Gun Found In Car With 3-Year-Old Inside: Police

BREAKING: Suffolk Police responded to a report of drug activity in a car Monday morning.

MEDFORD, NY – A man and a woman were arrested after police found drugs and a weapon in their car, along with the woman's 3-year-old child Monday morning, Suffolk Police said.

In response to information received about drug activity in a car on Maple Lane, a Sixth Precinct Patrol officer investigated and discovered drugs and a gun in the car around 9:30 a.m. The two adults in the car–30-year-old Zhurnay Hardy and 34-year-old Christina Shepherd–were arrested.

Hardy, of Medford and Shepherd, of East Patchogue, were each charged with three counts of seventh degree possession of a controlled substance, endangering the welfare of a child, criminal possession of drug paraphernalia, defacement of a weapon, second degree criminal possession of a weapon, third degree possession of a controlled substance. Hardy was also charged with third degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Police did not specify what kind of drugs the pair are accused of possessing.

Child Protective Services assisted and Shepherd's child was released to a family member, police said.

Hardy and Shepherd were held overnight at the Sixth Precinct and are scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip Tuesday.
