Patchogue Man Seriously Hurt in 3-Car Bohemia Crash

The accident occurred Tuesday night on Veterans Memorial Highway, police say.

Two people were injured, one seriously, in three-car crash in Bohemia on Tuesday night, police said.

According to police, Thomas Morrelli, 65, of Patchogue, was driving 2007 GMC SUV eastbound in the right lane on Veterans Memorial Highway when his car hit a 2007 Hyundai sedan driven by Melissa Molinari, 18, of Holbrook.

Molinari’s car then struck the rear of a 2013 Volvo tractor trailer driven by Thomas Gersic, 52, of Coram, who was stopped at a red light at the intersection of Ocean Avenue at 11:50 p.m., police said.

The GMC spun around and ended up in the left lane facing southbound, according to police.

Morrelli was transported via Suffolk County police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital after suffering from chest pains, police said. He is listed in serious condition, police said.

Molinari was transported via Sayville Community Ambulance to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue where she is being treated for minor injuries, police said.

Gersic was not injured, police said.

The SUV and the sedan were impounded for safety checks and the investigation is continuing.
