Patchogue-Medford’s Jeremiah Newsome Named Boys Indoor Track and Field Breakout Star

MEDFORD, NEW YORK—Patchogue-Medford High School senior Jeremiah Newsome was recently named to Newsday’s list of the top 10 Long Island high school boys indoor track and field breakout performers of the 2025-2026 season. A fierce competitor in shot put, Jeremiah was throwing the shot an impressive 46 feet and 7 ¾ inches by the end of last spring.

“Jeremiah is truly a remarkable student-athlete, achieving all-county honors for spring track and field in 2025 and proudly representing our school at the New York State track and field championships.” said Patchogue-Medford High School boys track and field coach Steve Cole.

This season, Jeremiah surpassed his distance from last season. Early in the winter season, he threw past the 50-foot mark three times. He threw the shot 50 feet and 9 ¼ inches, a remarkable distance, which broke the Patchogue-Medford High School record. This distance also placed him fifth on Long Island and 17th in New York State.

Following his graduation from Patchogue-Medford High School, Jeremiah intends to continue his track and field career in college while studying finance.
