Person Fatally Struck by Train in Ronkonkoma

The incident occurred early Wednesday morning.

A Long Island Rail Road train struck and killed a person in Ronkonkoma early Wednesday morning.

The LIRR says an “unauthorized person on tracks” was hit by the train at about 2:45 a.m. near the Ocean Avenue crossing. The train had left Penn Station at 1:20 a.m. and was due to arrive in Ronkonkoma at 2:46 a.m.

The train involved in the incident was delayed for two hours as police investigated. There were minor delays on other Ronkonkoma branch trains Wednesday morning, but service is now back to normal.

LIRR officials have not released any information regarding the identity of the person who was killed.
