Police: E. Patchogue Crash Seriously Injures Motorcyclist, Sun Glare Believed to Be a Factor

Two-vehicle crash occurred on Montauk Highway Monday afternoon.

A Selden man was seriously injured Monday afternoon when his motorcycle was struck by a car in East Patchogue, police said.

According to police, Steven Demartino, 53, was riding his 1984 Harley-Davidson east on Montauk Highway, near Orchard Road, when he was struck by a westbound 2010 Volkswagen that was attempting to turn left into the Valero gas station, located at 1164 Montauk Highway, shortly before 4 p.m., police said.

Demartino was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious but non-life threatening injuries, police said. The driver of the Volkswagen, Thomas Difalco, 62, of Ronkonkoma, was not injured.

Detectives believe sun glare was a contributing factor in the crash. Anyone with information on the crash is asked to call the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552.
