Port Jefferson Station Woman Killed in East Setauket Crash

The 77-year-old woman crashed into a guardrail, causing her car to catch fire Saturday morning, police say.

A 77-year-old Port Jefferson Station woman was killed when her car crashed into a guardrail and then caught fire Saturday morning in East Setauket, police said.

According to police, the woman was driving a 2006 Chrysler 300 west on Route 347, west of Old Town Road, when the car struck the guardrail at about 5 a.m. The woman, who police have not yet identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing. Anyone with information on the crash is asked to contact Sixth Squad detectives at 631-854-8652.
