Report: Animals Removed From Medford Home

Reports indicate at least 150 animals were found in a Lincoln Road home.

Suffolk SPCA workers said that at least 150 animals have been removed from a home on Lincoln Road in Medford Tuesday, according to a report on News 12.

According to the report, officials said that dogs, cats, rabbits, birds, reptiles, chinchillas and ferrets were found inside the residence.

A woman in her 70s reportedly was trying to care for the animals, but was overwhelmed by their sheer number. Officials said in the report that the home has been condemned due to unhealthy living conditions.

"While the intentions are good of the woman, she's overwhelmed," Brookhaven Animal Shelter Director Maureen Schneider said. "They needed food, they needed water, it is uninhabitable for both animals and people."

Citing Brookhaven Town Supervisor Ed Romaine, the report said that the woman may face fines for violating town codes. The animals are being taken care of at the Brookhaven Animal Shelter, and rescue groups will find them new homes.
