Shirley Man Burglarized 2 Occupied Homes, Tried To Enter 3rd: Police

Police say officers caught the suspect in a Medford yard after a 3-hour early morning burglary spree in Gordon Heights.

MEDFORD, NY — A Shirley man was arrested Tuesday after Suffolk County police said he burglarized two occupied homes and attempted to break into a third in three hours throughout Gordon Heights and Medford.

Sixth Precinct officers responded to reports of two occupied home burglaries overnight Tuesday, one on Erna Drive around 2:46 a.m. and another on Judith Drive around 4:03 a.m., according to Suffolk County police.

While canvassing the area following the incidents, an officer observed a man attempting to enter a home on Norfleet Lane around 5:20 a.m., police said. The suspect fled on foot.

Police said officers located the suspect, identified as Tyamie Bell, in the yard of a home on Gray Avenue in Medford around 5:25 a.m. and placed him under arrest.

Bell, 45, of Shirley, was charged with three counts of second-degree burglary, police said.

According to police, nothing was stolen during the burglaries, and no injuries were reported.

Bell was scheduled to be held overnight at the Sixth Precinct and arraigned on Wednesday at First District Court in Central Islip.
