Is A Weekend Snowstorm Brewing?

It's only Monday, but forecasters are closely watching a system that could bring accumulating snow to Long Island this weekend.

The first day of spring is two weeks away, but Mother Nature is set to remind Long Island that it's certainly still winter.

There are two snow threats in the upcoming forecast, including a potential snowstorm this weekend. Now it's only Monday so take this all with a grain of salt, but here's what we could be dealing with over the next week:

There's a 30 percent chance of snow Friday morning, the National Weather Service says. "This swath of snow may only be 100 miles in width from north to south," AccuWeather reports. "A slight shift in the system’s track could mean the difference between disruptions and slick travel to dry weather holding."

Any snow on Friday may just be a preview for late winter snowstorm this weekend. As of now, the NWS says there's a 50 percent chance of snow Saturday night and Sunday. The weather service has not made an official snowfall estimates at this point, but AccuWeather says "if the storm develops to its full potential, it could unload six inches or more of windblown snow."
