3 Arrests Connected To Stolen Catalytic Converters: Police

The men were driving a stolen car in Freeport that had three catalytic converters inside, according to police.

ROOSEVELT, NY — Three men were arrested in Roosevelt during the overnight hours of Wednesday in connection to recent catalytic converter thefts, police said.

The men: Jose Reyes, 24; Hector Otero, 22; and the driver Jesus Rodriguez Brito, 23, are all from the Bronx, according to authorities.

While patrolling on Lakeview Avenue in Freeport, officers noticed a grey Audi sedan crash into two parked cars. An investigation revealed that the vehicle was stolen, detectives said.

The Audi matched descriptions from multiple complaints in recent catalytic converter thefts.

The men, who suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries, were in possession of tools to commit larcenies of multiple catalytic converters. Three stolen catalytic converters were also recovered, detectives said.

A fourth suspect fled and has not been charged.

Each suspect faces charges of criminal possession of stolen property, possession of burglar tools. Reyes and Otero are also charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle.

All suspects will be arraigned when medically practical.
