3 Guns Found In Car; 3 Men Charged: Police

One man had a previous conviction and arrest on criminal possession charges, police said.

ROOSEVELT, NY — Three men have been taken into custody by police after three handguns were found in their vehicle.

Officers stopped a 2016 black Honda Accord on Wednesday at 8:22 p.m. in Roosevelt. The car was heading southbound on Wagner Avenue and drove through a stop sign at East Clinton Avenue, police said.

Upon investigating the vehicle, three handguns were recovered and police arrested three men:

  • Kaevon Edwards, 24, of Uniondale
  • Michael Smallwood, 23, of East Meadow
  • Dahquell Haskin, 22, of Freeport

They all face two counts of criminal possession of a weapon and two counts of criminal possession of a firearm.

Haskin has a previous conviction of criminal possession of a firearm in May 2020. He was also arrested in Oct. 2021 for charges that include two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He was released with no bail and fitted with an ankle bracelet by Nassau County Probation, detectives said.
