2. Merrick students honored for clearing hydrants during the harsh winter (liherald.com) — Merrick elementary students from Chatterton, Birch and Lakeside were honored by the Merrick Fire Department for clearing snow from hydrants during this winter’s heavy storms, helping firefighters reach water faster during emergencies. The Hydrant Heroes initiative, launched by local PTAs, not only improved safety across the South Shore but also encouraged kids to take pride in serving their community and consider future volunteer roles.
3. Local-made film reaches global audience on Prime Video (liherald.com) — A new romantic comedy filmed partly in Merrick homes and starring Merrick actor Travis Grant is now streaming worldwide on Prime Video. GOVL: Greenlawn won the Senior Girls Championship title (thenationalherald.com) — Merrick’s St. Demetrios Senior Girls volleyball team battled rival St. Paraskevi of Greenlawn in a tightly contested GOVL championship, ultimately falling in three close sets. The match capped a season-long rivalry, with standout serving and defense from several Merrick players keeping every set competitive and showcasing the strength of local youth volleyball.
