The plan would fund main replacements and contaminant treatment, but local officials and customers from Merrick-area districts are loudly pushing back against what they call drastic, unaffordable increases.
3. Bellmore-Merrick students shine in inclusive 'Once Upon a Mattress' production (liherald.com) — Bellmore-Merrick's Extended School Year program just wrapped an inclusive filmed production of "Once Upon a Mattress," premiered at Merrick Avenue Middle School for families and staff. About 50 local students with special needs spent six weeks acting, socializing, and using green-screen and AI effects to bring the musical to life in a low-pressure, supportive setting.
4. Two LI Pilgrims Among Thousands Missing After Catastrophic Nepal Floods (dailyvoice.com) — A 72-year-old Merrick resident, Jitendra Manubhai Patel, is among thousands of people missing after catastrophic flooding in Nepal during a religious pilgrimage, according to Newsday. He was traveling with relatives and a tour group when the glacier-triggered flood hit, and family members say they have not heard from them since Wednesday.
